Music Learning Center - Danbury
2020 – 2021 Year (September – August)
School Policies
- Lesson Payments are due on the 1st of each month. Payment may be made by autopay (automatic checking account debit) OR autocharge (VISA/MASTERCARD/DISCOVER). On the 1st of each month you will be charged the individual lesson rate, times the number of lessons that will take place according to the calendar. For example, if your lessons are on Saturdays, you will have (4) in September, (5) in October, (4) in November, etc.. You may view a complete breakdown of each month's charges by clicking: Monthly Tuition Grid 2020-21
- Student Lesson Absence - Students may request a rescheduled lesson a maximum of one time per month provided they directly inform the MLC Office no later than 12:00 p.m. on the original lesson day for afternoon lessons, or 5:30 p.m. Friday for all Saturday lessons. The MLC office and instructors cannot guarantee that missed lessons may be rescheduled at a convenient time for the student. Rescheduled lessons may be completed with a teacher either in-person or online (ZOOM Meeting). Rescheduled lessons must be completed within thirty (30) days of the original lesson date or the lesson will be forfeited. Students are responsible for contacting the office regarding their instructor's possible availability for a rescheduled lesson. Rescheduled lessons that are later canceled by the student may not be rescheduled a second time. Missed lessons cannot be credited towards monthly charges except during specified Holiday periods (Item #6).
- The Music Learning Center Year begins on August 24, 2020 and ends August 22, 2021. Pre-registration for currently enrolled students takes place in early May of each year. Lessons continue throughout the summer.
- The Annual Registration and Activities Fee is $30.00 for the first family member. The fee is $20.00 for either a second family member or a second instrument studied in a separate weekly lesson. Families scheduling three or more students or weekly lessons are only charged fees for the first two. The Registration and Activities fee reserves the student's lesson time from September thru August and allows for their participation in recitals, Open Mic Night, Bring-A-Friend Week, and other MLC events.
- Summer Scheduling & Cancellation Policies - During the summer, students will not be charged for cancellations that have been made three (3) or more days prior to the 1st of the new month. Cancellations made prior to 12:00pm for weekday afternoon lessons, or by 5:30pm Friday for Saturday lessons, are eligible to be rescheduled during the summer (according to their instructor's availability).
- Holidays - The MLC does not follow the same holiday schedule as the local schools. Our holiday closings are:
- Labor Day (9/7/20)
- Thanksgiving Break (11/26-27)
- December 24 – 25
- January 1
- Memorial Day (5/31/21)
- July 5 (Observed)
Credited absences are allowed during the following holiday and vacation periods: Thanksgiving weekend, December 26-31, and spring break week (according to your local school system). Please notify the MLC office by the 25th of the prior month if you will miss lessons during one of these holiday or vacation periods. Holiday period absence credits will be deducted from the student's monthly lesson fee in the month following the absence.
- Teacher Absences - If an instructor needs to cancel a lesson MLC will make every effort to offer a highly qualified substitute teacher for that date. If a substitute cannot be arranged then the lesson will be rescheduled.
- Lateness - Students that are late cannot be guaranteed their full lesson time. Instructors will wait 15 minutes for a student that is not on time.
- Weather & Emergency Cancellations will be announced on the www.musiclearningcenter.org website’s “homepage” and on the MLC Voicemail Message (203-748-1444). In the event of a closing all lessons will be completed online that day with your teacher using ZOOM Meeting. Local school closings and delayed openings do not automatically affect the MLC schedule. Additional information about weather closing announcements and procedures will be published in the MLC Fall Newsletter.
- Office Telephone & E-mail - All calls should be made to The MLC OFFICE (203) 748-1444. You may also contact the office via e-mail at: office@musiclearningcenter.org. Please enable your e-mail software to receive messages from that address so that you may receive monthly payment receipts, credit memos, MLC's newsletters and other important information.
- NSF Charges - A $25.00 service charge will automatically be applied for any payment that is returned NSF (non-sufficient funds) or otherwise declined. If the account is not made current within 5 days of the student/parent having been notified then lessons will be suspended.
- Mid-Year Changes of Weekly Lesson Day/Time – MLC will make every effort to accommodate a student who needs to change their regular weekly lesson time at some point during the year. Lesson times cannot be reserved for students who must temporarily suspend lessons at any point during the year, unless they choose to continue paying their regular monthly lesson fee. Students who resume lessons during the year are not required to pay an additional registration fee.
- Withdrawal – Students intending to withdraw from lessons must complete a withdrawal form (available from the office) no later than the 7th of the month prior to when the student intends to discontinue lessons. For example: If the student will be stopping lessons in January, the office must be notified prior to December 7th. Paid registration and monthly lesson fees are non-refundable. The MLC and instructors reserve the right to remove a student from the schedule if two (2) or more consecutive lessons are missed without prior notice having been given.
- Child Supervision - Parents should bring their children into the MLC WAITING AREA when arriving for a lesson, and wait with them until the instructor arrives at the appointed time. Parents are asked to be in the WAITING AREA promptly at the conclusion of the lesson. Parents are always welcome to sit in on lessons at any time. Instructors' studio assignments are posted in the waiting area.
- Photography/Video - The MLC is hereby granted permission to take photographs of the student to use in press releases, brochures, websites, posters, advertisements and other promotional materials the school creates. Permission is also hereby granted for the school to copyright such photographs in its name. Student names will not appear with photos without the prior written consent of the parent.
- Announcements & Policy Changes - Parents and/or students are responsible for reading all MLC e-mails and newsletters which may contain important announcements and other information. The MLC reserves the right, with notice, to periodically revise its policies.
